Privacy Policy

Petabyte Connect ("the app") downloads one file over several networks at once, for example Wi-Fi and mobile data. This page says what the app does with your information. The short version: we do not collect your data. The app has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and we run no servers that the app talks to.
What we collect
Nothing. Nothing about you, your downloads or your device is sent to us.
Where your downloads come from
When you paste a link, the app connects straight from your device to the website that link points to and downloads the file from there. Nothing passes through us. That website sees your device's IP address and the request, like any website you visit, and its own privacy policy applies. When the app uses two networks, the website sees a request from each network's IP address.
Connection checks (Microsoft and Cloudflare)
To find out whether each network really has internet, the app contacts two public services over that network: Microsoft's connection test (msftconnecttest.com) and Cloudflare's trace page (cloudflare.com). The app also reads the public IP address Cloudflare reports, to show it on the Networks page and to tell whether two networks share the same line. These services see your device's IP address, as any website would. We do not receive that information. Their own privacy policies apply.
What stays on your device
- Your files are saved on your device. On iPhone they are in the Files app under On My iPhone > Petabyte Connect.
- Unfinished downloads keep a small file named like
NAME.part.statenext to the download. It holds the download's web address. Some web addresses contain a temporary access token. Delete the unfinished download in the app, or delete that file, to remove it. - The app's download list and settings are stored in the app's own storage on your device. The list holds the links of your downloads. The settings hold your save folder, your mobile-data limit and the names of networks you switched off or marked as mobile data.
- A diagnostics log (up to about 1 MB) records the server name of each download, file sizes, network types and errors. It does not record full links, file names, Wi-Fi names or public IP addresses. It never leaves your device unless you choose Settings > Copy diagnostics and paste it somewhere yourself.
The app does not back up this data to a server of ours. On Android, Auto Backup is turned off for the app.
Permissions
The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. On Android it may ask to show notifications about running and finished downloads; notifications can show file names.
Windows version
On Windows the app can offer to change one Windows network policy (the setting that lets Windows keep several networks connected at once). It does this only if you tap the button and approve Windows' administrator prompt.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version and its date will appear on this page.
